Annotation:

The article presents data on the clinical course of genital herpetic infection, modern requirements for diagnosis, methods of treatment and prevention of relapses. Foreign literature notes an increase in the incidence of genital herpes among the sexually active population, while in the Russian Federation it decreased by 20.7% (from 14.0 to 11.1 cases per 100 thousand population), which may indicate a decrease in the quality of its clinical and laboratory diagnostics, as well as neglect of registration of cases of the disease. The clinical picture can vary from typical manifestations to atypical, asymptomatic forms. The relevance of studying genital herpes is due to the persistent course of the disease, the difficulties of controlling recurrence, which significantly worsens the quality of life of patients, planning and carrying a pregnancy. The literature review provides general information about genital herpes, summarizes modern views on diagnosis and treatment, and also reflects

results of studies assessing the effectiveness of drugs in the treatment and prevention of this disease.
