For two years, the world has been in the midst of a pandemic caused by a new infection, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), which leads to lung damage and severe respiratory failure. Today, there is also no doubt that SARS-CoV-2 is neurotropic and leads to a wide range of disorders in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. The most common and pathognomonic symptom of COVID-19 infection is olfactory dysfunction. This article provides an overview of modern publications on olfactory disorders, as well as types of damage to the peripheral nervous system, discusses the mechanisms of damage and possible treatment options for disorders.
